                                              Raman (81) passes away.

           
                      Former State and Railways table tennis star, S. Raman, passed away on April 28. He was 81.

                      A fluent attacker who always chose to play close to the table playing with utmost felicity on both flanks, Raman represented the State (then Madras) and later Railways both in the national and international events.

                      Raman is reported to have been the only Indian player to take a game off the Czech master, Ivan Andreadis.

                      A contemporary of the famous duo, V. Sivaraman and Thiruvengadam, Raman was the elder brother of the two former state players, S. Lakshman (UCO Bank) and S. Bharathan (State Bank).

                      Raman excelled in cricket also, playing for Bhimenapet RC and Jai Hind CC in the city league.

                      He was a forceful opening batsman and on off-spinner. After leaving Railways, he worked for Enfield India.

                      He is survived by his wife, two sons and daughter. — Special Correspondent.
