TODAY'S NEWS
X Factor: Shikhar Dhawan's ability to get the team off to a flying start. Sangakkara is in very poor touch and a lot depends on this in-form left-hander. If he bats 15 overs, it will be tough for Delhi.
Recent form: After a promising start, they slumped to successive defeats to CSK and RR. They bounced back in style though against Mumbai. They have made Uppal their fortress this year and are yet to lose a home game. They will need to bat better though.
Weakness: Leadership. While Kumar Sangakkara and Cameron White are respected names, they haven't pulled their weight as players and have dropped themselves sporadically. It's time to show some stability.
Key Players: Dale Steyn has been magnificent at the start and has formed a lethal combination with Ishant Sharma. They have given the team the insurance against poor batting performances. Amit Mishra and Karan Sharma have made leg-spin an attractive option in T20s with their stellar performances.
X Factor: Unmukt Chand seems to have got his act together and is batting with more purpose and increased responsibility. It's better if he bats at three and not as opener because he won't be compelled to go after every delivery.
Recent form: The last two games have marked a resurgence for the side that had been written off completely. With nothing to lose, they can play with freedom and poop the playoff party of others.
Weakness: Mahela Jayawardene and Virender Sehwag's form. Barring the game against MI, they haven't really clicked. They need to change their approach a bit.
Key Players: David Warner has taken a special liking to the middle-order slot. Umesh Yadav's searing pace can knock over Shikhar Dhawan early and that can be a match-defining event. If the wicket is a slow turner and behaves similar to the game against MI, Shahbaz Nadeem's accurate left-arm-spin could be more than handy.
Sunrisers look to scorch Delhi Daredevils
HYDERABAD: Having turned their home ground into a fortress, Sunrisers Hyderabad now have the onerous task of defending their citadel against marauding teams, most of whom are in a mad rush to garner points even as the tournament heads into its final leg.
Built on the ruins of the erstwhile Deccan Chargers, who had a miserable home record, the Sunrisers management has done a commendable job in turning the franchisee into a formidable fighting unit, especially on home ground. The slow pitch at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium has aided their gameplan too.
The resounding seven-wicket thumping of the mighty Mumbai Indians a couple of days ago showcased the confidence of the Sunrisers, but they have their task cut out in the coming days. First up for the Sunrisers are the Delhi Daredevils on Saturday night.
The Daredevils seem to be slowly coming into their own, thanks to the pyrotechnics of the Australian who goes by the name of David Warner. With just six points in their kitty from 10 games, their chances of making the qualifiers are not too bright unless they come up with somestunning results in their last six matches.
The Sunrisers' attack could prove could a handful for the Daredevils. The Sunrisers have thrived on the pace and precision of Dale Steyn (10 wickets), Ishant Sharma (12), Thisara Perera (10) and the guile of leggie Amit Mishra (16). This potent combination has been the hosts' lethal weapon.
